How to apply for and receive a Google Ad Grant? This is a very common question. People have heard about the mythical $10,000 per month that can be spent on Google ads. But how do you get them for your organization?
If you are located in the United States, you must have 501(c)(3) status. Your organization cannot be a school or college, hospital or government agency. You must also accept Google’s Terms of Service.
Once you’ve determined you’re eligible, there’s a multi-step process to get your application processed and eligible to receive a Google Ad Grant. Here we go over some of the steps.
First, you need to access your Google Account for Nonprofits. Many organizations already have such an account. For example, if you use gmail or GSuite for email in your organization.
One of the other benefits of Google for nonprofits is that you get GSuite for free, which is great. If you’re not using this tool, it’s definitely something to look into.
Where to start? Access to a Google Account for non-profit organizations
The first step in this process is to get access to your Google Account for Nonprofits. You can go to the Google page and find the link to apply. You will be asked to provide basic information about your organization, your name, etc.
The first step in the verification process is to have your nonprofit status verified by a third party called TechSoup.
What’s next? Checking the status of an NGO in TechSoup
When you log in to TechSoup, it will generate a token for you, which you will then submit to Google for Nonprofits. You enter this token to confirm your NPO status. Fill out a quick application and send it. Google will then tell you whether or not your nonprofit already has a Google Account for Nonprofits. If you don’t already have an account, you will be verified, approved, and then you can complete this step.
If a Google for Nonprofits account already exists, the company will send an email to the administrator of that account saying, “(Individual’s name) is requesting to be added as a Google for Nonprofits administrator. Please add them and approve this request within 15 days. If you don’t respond within 15 days, we’ll add them ourselves.” They will then be added to your account. Or you can reject their request if it’s not valid and that’s it.
Steps to apply for a Google grant
First, you should set up your website and make sure it is ready to go and complies with all Google rules.
Another issue you should think about is the security of your website. In the Chrome browser, you will see a small lock icon to indicate that there is a secure connection. Or, if it’s just http, you’ll see a message in Chrome saying the site isn’t secure. It will be red. This means that your website does not have an SSL certificate installed yet.If you are applying for the first time and dream of getting a Google Ad Grant, you need to get an SSL certificate for your site first.
You should also make sure that the website is of good quality:
- it has enough content;
- pages are loaded in a short period of time;
- no strange, distracting or annoying things;
- the website is free of malware or spyware.
Once your website is completely ready and has all of these elements on it, you’ll submit the first part of your Google Ad Grant application. If the site meets the requirements, then you will receive an email saying “You have been approved for part one, proceed to part two”.
Then you can proceed to the second part – setting up an advertising account, following all the instructions.
Begin by entering your first and last name to establish your identity. The next crucial step is providing your email address; remember, it must be a business, branded, or corporate email, as generic email addresses are not accepted. This is to ensure a professional level of communication and to filter out non-serious inquiries.
You are also required to include your website’s URL. This is vital as it gives context and allows for a preliminary assessment of your online presence, which is integral to the audit process. Furthermore, you must clarify your status regarding NGO registration or your interest in Google Ad Grants. This information is essential for tailoring the audit to your specific needs and circumstances.
After you have filled in all these details with precision and care, review them to ensure accuracy and completeness. Submitting accurate and comprehensive information is crucial for a meaningful audit.
